I am a trained Ear, Nose, Throat (E.N.T.), and Head and Neck Surgeon with more than 16 years of experience in medical, clinical, surgical management and treatment of patients with diseases of the ear, nose, throat, and related structures of the head and neck. I am working at Shifa International Hospital as Senior Consultant ENT and Head & Neck Surgeon since 2001.

DeleteThank you doctor sahib for operation my son. Now he sleeps with his mouth closed and does not snore at all. His hearing is also much more improved after the surgery. Its been two months now. As advised by your good self I will bring him for a routine checkup.

Please regularly check that he keeps the mouth closed because although the nose is open for breathing, the mouth breathing habit will take some time to go away. His tubes will be extruded out in about 6-9 months time. Presence of glue like material in the ear is responsible for decreased hearing. Removal of this fluid and insertion of ventilation tubes increases the hearing a great deal. Do come for follow up in 6-8 weeks time.
DeleteHello I am Masood. My 5 year old daughter has problem breathing at night. She has runny nose almost throughout the year. She also feels sick and often has fever. Once or twice a month she complains of pain in throat. Will she require some medicine or surgery to get rid of these problem permanently. I will visit you in your clinic in couple of days with my daughter.

You might feel a slight increase in nasal twang in your voice which disappears after few weeks automatically. You can continue the exercises I told you for more effective contraction of your palate muscles.

Sir I am Imran and I visited you in last week of November having severe vertigo and ringing in my ears. I have to admit that when I first met you I had no hope my vertigo could be cured. Some doctors even referred me to the psychiatrists. It completely destroyed my confidence. When I came to see you sir you explained to me by showing pictures on your computer that where problem lies most likely. No one took the time to do so. After a month of treatment now my vertigo is no longer there and very occasionally I hear ringing sound in my left ear but that too is very faint. Special thanks for replying my untimely emails. ReplyDeleteYou don't have to worry about anything serious. You do not have a psychiatric illness. Come for a followup in 6-8 weeks time and the audiological assessments have to be redone and compared to your previous results. Hopefully the vertigo and ringing in the ear will not reappear. You have to quit smoking and also cut down your intake of coffee and tea.

Dear Dr Zafar. I hope your are doing fine. I got myself operated couple of years ago from you for a salivary gland tumor, pliomorphic adenoma. Every thing was fine untill few days back but now sometimes I feel that I have problem in swallowing specially when I get tense. It seems that I will not be able to swallow my saliva even. But once I start eating anything it goes down to my stomach. I am having a very tense situation at home for some family issue. I wanted to ask you if this swallowing problem is due to surgery.
ReplyDeleteI think what you are suffering from is anxiety. Try searching for Globus Hystericus Syndrome on Google. Its mainly seen in females but can also be present in males. Please Come for a check up in my clinic or see a nearby ENT specialist to rule out any other physical lesion which may cause this swallowing difficulty and if not found please see a psychiatrist.

DeleteDoctor sahib I am Saud Ali from Karachi. I came to you for DNS operation but you explained to me that I do not need surgery because my symptoms are not due to DNS. I have used the treatment you gave me and now I am 100% ok. There is no headache now. I stopped the treatment two weeks back. I will visit my parents in Islamabad in February, should I come to Shifa and see you again.

DeleteSalam doctor sahib. I am Hafeez from Nokia Siemens. Thank you for my treatment of nose. Its a new life for me now I can breathe easily and my mouth and lips do not become dry. My uncle also has the same problem but in addition he has sneezing specially when there is change of weather. Does he need surgery because there is no relief from medicines now. Can he consult you for his problem.

I gave them your example that you have in your phone almost everything related to your specialty like different tests including hearing checkup, xrays, ct scans, mri, pictures etc. I even quoted your answer when I asked you is there anything your phone can't do and you said yes, it can't operate my patients :}

Nice to hear that you are doing fine. You can ask your uncle to visit me in my clinic. I think from your description he also has nasal allergy. I will examine him and let him about the most appropriate treatment in his case.

DeleteThank you Dr Zafar for your timely advice. I googled and found out that my condition is exactly like it is described. My problem is still there but not as severe as it was before. I am much better now and it does not bother me much. I have consulted a psychiatrist too but I have not taken any medicines yet. Thank you again.

ReplyDeleteThank you sir for operating on my ear. I can hear much better now and there is no more ear discharge. I have to come for 3 month follow up and hearing assessment. Presently I am at Lahore for couple of weeks on official trip. Can I come after two weeks if it is not a problem.
Its not a problem. Please get the Puretone Audiometery from Lahore and come for a followup or email me the result of the test. For few months try keeping the ear dry during bathing using the technique mentioned on the discharge slip.

DeleteDear Dr Zafar I am Mustafa from PAEC. You operated on my son last week for adenotonlis and you put tubes in his ear drums. After the operation now he sleeps very peacefully and his hearing is improved a great deal. We thank you for your help and explaining what was important for our son. My wife was very scared about the operation but now she is very happy to see the instant result of marked improvement in hearing and sleep.

DeleteThis is Sonia Khan. I came to your clinic three days back as I was having severe pain in my ears. You told me that I have wax in both of my ears and you advised me some drops and asked me to revisit after 5 days. My both ears are still blocked however there is no pain now. Will my ears open on their own?
ReplyDeleteYou have to come for suction cleaning of the wax. It take only few minutes and the hearing will come back to normal. Visit me in my clinic between 5-8 pm.

I have been suffering from severe pain in my left ear for the last one year and I have seen almost all ENT specialists of the twin city but without a relief instead I also developed stomach ulcer due to using the pain killers. When I saw you a week ago you told me my ear is absolutely normal and I have a problem of the jaw joint. You prescribed a couple of medicines and few exercises. To tell you frankly I thought I wasted my time but those medicines and exercises worked so well. I am feeling much better now. I will come for a follow up after 2 weeks as you had advised but I have not consulted any dentist yet. I don't think I need it also. Thank you so much doctor sahib no one could find out out what was wrong with me.

ReplyDeleteMost probably you are suffering from Intrinsic Rhinitis and not Nasal Allergy. Please come for a follow up visit and planning of treatment.
DeleteI am mother of Hamza on whom you operated upon 6 months back. You removed his tonsils, adenoids and put tiny tubes inside his ears. He has no complaints now. His hearing is fine now. I was wondering if his tubes are still inside his ear drums. You told me that they come out on their own. What will happen if these tubes do not come out. I did not see anything coming out from his ears. Do you need to take them out and should he see you.
ReplyDeleteThese tubes usually come out between 6-9 months. Sometimes they are hidden in the wax of ear once they come out or the ear drum. You can bring Hamza to my clinic for an examination. There is no need to worry about the tubes anyway.

All is fine but since one week I am having severe itching in the nose and sneezing specially when I wake up in the morning. Does it have anything to do with the operation of the nose?

Salam Dr Rabbani. I am Nuzhat. You operated on my voice box couple of weeks back. It was a vocal polyp. After operation my voice has improved a great deal. I can say it is very close to normal now. I wanted to ask you as I am a teacher when can I start using my voice normally.

I can not find the prescription on which you wrote the name of that x-ray. Secondly how long should my father use the medicines?
ReplyDeleteMedicines are normally given for 2-4 weeks to start with. He can stop the medicines if he feels normal. X-ray was of Cervical Spine, AP and Lateral view because he was feeling numbness of upper arms and shoulders.

DeleteRespected Dr Rabbani. I got my son Zeshan operated for tonsils and adenoids 4 days ago. He has no complain now apart from mild pain when he swallows something. He is taking soft diet only. I wanted to ask you that how long should he use soft diet. He is very fond of eating grilled chicken and now he is insisting on Nan and Roast.
ReplyDeleteSoft diet is only for 2 days. He can start normal diet and can have Nan and roast if its not too spicy.

ReplyDeleteSir my son was operated upon by you for rinolith right side of nose in December 2011. Now there is no bad smell or bleeding from his nose. Sometimes he feels having blocked nose and sneezing. This problem was there even before the surgery and it is more in this season. He had a similar problem last year in almost same dates. Can you suggest some medicines or should I visit you in your clinic.

ReplyDeleteLast year you operated on Jamil who came to you from Lahore and his daughter is your student. I hope you remember him. He is very happy with the result of surgery. He can breathe very easily from his nose and even his snoring is gone too.
I know it may sound stupid but is it possible that I may also have a similar result. My wife is very irritated by my snoring. Lastly does the nasal bones grow back after the surgery?
When can I come to see you and get the surgery date.
Bones don't grow back. In some cases the turbinates grow back specially if the patient has allergy. You can take an appointment and visit me anytime in my clinic during this week.

DeleteSir this is Hasnain. I came to you three days ago with high fever severe pain in my throat. You had advised me treatment and asked me to give a feed back how I feel after three days.
ReplyDeleteBefore your treatment I had taken two courses of treatment but did not feel any change in my pain or fever. After the medicine you gave me now fever is settled and only slight pain remains when I swallow. I can roughly say that I am 80-90% OK.
You had prescribed me medicines for 7 days. Should I stop the medicine after 7 days or do I need to see you.

You can stop the medicines after 7 days. Do come for a follow up after 7 days. Your ears need to be re-evaluated. Your ear drums were retracted because of which you were having blocking sensation of the ears.

He has been advised surgery and he wants to have surgery done by you but your hospital is not on his panel list. Is there a way to operate him because he will not be able to afford shifa hospital.

Dear Professor Rabbani. I visited you with my husband Athar, who is an architect. He had severe sore throat. He is perfectly fine now with the medicines you gave him. I would also like to specially thank you for helping him to quit smoking. He had been trying for years to quite smoking but could not. After the session you gave him and the tips he did not smoke a single cigarette after that. My daughter is so happy about it too. Thank you very much.

I took the same medicine you advised for one week in 16mg. Then I started taking it in 8mg. I am not taking it any more but my motion sickness is taken over again.
I still can't fully focus my eyes on a single point. It has shaken my confidence. I took 1 week off from my office. Now I have started going back to office again but still I am not fully confident.
Kindly advice the following
1. How many days it will take to fully recovered
2. Should I go for the Eyes check up?
3. What are the pre-cautionary measures I should take to recover this as soon as possible.

I think you have prematurely stopped the medicine. Please come for a follow as early as you can and I will re-evaluate you with rescheduling of the medicines. You don't have to worry about the disease. Its completely curable. You should avoid sudden eye or neck movements.

Normally the medicines are given for 1-2 weeks and generally the desirable response is achieved. How do you feel about your disease and symptoms. If they are OK there is no need to take any medicines now. If symptoms are still persisting then please let me know. I can guide you, what to do in your current prevailing condition.
DeleteThank you Dr. I still get bouts of pain in both my ears, especially the right one. Also, early May I travelled to Myanmar, and again during the flight the pain in both the ears was unbearable. During my stay I had pain in both my ears, and would aggrevate even if I sat near a fan. So I restarted the antihistamines and serratiopetidase for a week. Please guide me, as to what I should do to get rid of this problem permenantly.

You can see a local ENT doctor to have a clinical evaluation. If you chew gum or drink sips of water during the flight it will reduce the blocking feeling and pain in the ear. Also avoid sleeping in flight.
DeleteYou can use the same medicines and let me know after a week of treatment. You can use Tablet Brufen 400 mg three times a day if you feel pain but do not take the medicine empty stomach as it causes severe heart burn in some patients.
Sir I am Jamal. I came to you on Friday with severe sore throat and fever. You changed my medicine from Augmentin to Klaricid. My throat is normal buy my loose motions have not stopped. What should I do.

Mashallah he is perfectly fine now. He sleeps well and his appetite has improved a lot. His Madam in school was saying he does not sleep in class now and his hearing is at par with other students of the class. He participates well in class activities. I was advised by many of my friends that do not get your son operated he is too small and I was worried too. Alhamdolillah now I am very happy with the result of the surgery. Dear Dr Rabbani. I am Seher from Peshawar. I hope you remember me. My sister is your student at Shifa College of Medicine. You did plastic surgery of my nose about 5 months back. The shape of nose is fine now. Sometimes when I breathe cold air I feel some strange feeling in the nose. I sneeze couple of times and in few minutes it gets better. You told me I also have allergy of nose and since my last visit I am constantly using medicines you prescribed. Can you suggest what should I do. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteThese symptoms are due to allergy. Please stop the anti-allergy tablet that you were taking and start the other one I prescribed you to use alternately. Also start using the nasal spray that I advised you to use in season of allergy. Let me know after 2 weeks of treatment how you feel.

ReplyDeleteThere is no need to worry. Battery cells damage the delicate lining of the nose and can give rise to slight bleeding. There is no need for a follow up as yet. If the bleeding recurs and becomes severe, which is very unlikely, then you can bring her to my clinic for a check up.
